QUALITY CONTROL AND MATERIALS

Polyethylene Injection Molding

Polyethylene is one of the most widely used thermoplastic polymers, which are used for making fabricated components and parts, as well as everyday use products such as plastic toys to bags to containers and bottles. The polyethylene thermoplastic polymers with similar properties but slightly different chemical composition. Polyethylene is also one of the most widely used materials for injection molding owing to distinct properties they have. Being one of the leading injection molding services, we, at Veejay Plastic, regularly use polyethylene molding materials. With a well-equipped production facility and a vast experience to our credit, we have been helping our clients across industries in building precision designed and quality injection molded parts made of polyethylene.

Grades of Polyethylene We Work

The grades of polyethylene we regularly work with are listed below.

  • o LDPE: LDPE stands for Low-Density Polyethylene. It has 0.91 to 0.94 g/cm3 density. It is the preliminary grade of polyethylene polymer. This material offers high ductility, fluidity, and chemical resistance. This polyethylene grade can resist alcohol, alkalis, low-intensity oxidizing agents, etc.
  • o MDPE: MDPE stands for Medium Density Polyethylene. It has 0.926 to 0.960 g/cm3. It offers good shock and drops resistance. It also offers better crack resistance and top-notch sensitivity as compared to HDPE. Therefore, it is used in pipe fittings, screw carriers, etc.
  • o HDPE: HDPE stands for High-Density Polyethylene. It has a density of over 0.95 to 0.97 g/cm3. It offers high-temperature resistance over 100° C. Its superior chemical resistance and high mechanical strength makes it an ideal material for injection molding.

o UHMWPE: UHMWPE stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. It offers more than 0.95 g/cm3 molecular density. This material is extremely tough and durable so it offers excellent abrasion resistance. It offers great machinability, therefore is suitable for molded components that may require fabrication for dimensional precision.

However, along with the mentioned grades, we also work with various types of industrial-grade polyethylene thermoplastic polymers like NSF-grade polyethylene, food contact grade polyethylene, and medical-grade polyethylene materials.

Beneficial Features of Polyethylene

As said earlier, the properties of polyethylene polymers slightly differ according to their types. However, the common features of these types of polyethylene thermoplastic polymers are described below.

o Polyethylene polymers are light in weight but assure durability, thus they are largely used for plastic material production.

o These materials offer great impact resistance, which makes them ideal for complex designs.

o Depending on the material, the density, ductility, and crystallinity, differs. Therefore, these materials can be used for customized injection molding production. The molding material can be selected according to the process requirements.

o Polyethylene polymers offer good machinability and process ability, which helps in effective injection molding.

o These materials are highly recyclable, therefore scrap material can be reused for further production.

o Heat resistance, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability make these materials suitable for intricate product manufacturing.

o These polymers have useful temperature capabilities, as they offer stability in cryogenic temperatures.

o HDPE resins possess good fatigue and wear resistance than their LDPE and MDPE counterparts.

o HDPE resins are FDA/USDA approved and they possess zero water absorption properties, as well.

Applications of Polyethylene in Injection Molding

Polyethylene polymers find countless applications in injection molding. The following are some common applications.

  • o Resin transfer molded or blow-molded bottles and containers
  • o Housewares
  • o Automobile casings and seals
  • o Pharmaceutical components
  • o Medical tray and containers
  • o Food processing parts
  • o Chemical holding tanks
  • o Packaging applications
  • o Conveyor wear strips
  • o Piping systems
  • o Liquid dispensing equipment
