Veejay Plastic injection molding company was contacted by an engineering and product development company to design a custom product. The product was required to perform at high temperatures in cryogenic feed lines and industrial cold transfer lines. It would be used to support the fabrication and performance of Wrapped Multi-Layer Insulation (WMLI).
The challenge was to produce a light weight polymer that could be used in the fabrication of WMLI. The product would also have to support the testing of WMLI prototypes at -320F. Veejay Plastic designed and completed the micro injection molding a ‘Spacer’, a polymer posts weighing less than five milligrams (0.005gram).
The polymer could reduce heat transfer during insulation, as well as control layer spacing. Thus, Veejay Plastic was able to help the client to manufacture WMLI prototypes for testing at -320F. The injection molding spacer has now been added as part of the client proprietary technology.
